History:
Moffat was originally part of Nassagaweya Township prior to that townships amalgamation with the Town of Milton in 1974. Originally Moffat was referred to as Gomorrah while the neighboring hamlet of Haltonville was known as Sodom. These place names made reference to the notorious biblical cities with the same name. But why were these names given to the seemingly innocuous hamlets of Moffat and Haltonville. Well it seems that in the mid 1800s there were raucous booze establishments lining the dirt road separating these hamlets. And if you were wise you did not travel on this road after dark.
In 1872 when the local post office was opened the name of this community was changed from Gomorrah to Moffat. The new name was in honor of the local blacksmith James Moffatt, spelled with two t’s, who hailed from a hamlet by the same name in his native Scotland. Moffat was a close knit community of hard working farmers who would supply grain to the local feed mill. There was also a busy saw mill that once operated in Moffat. The focal point of the community was the church, which was the venue for church socials, dances, picnics and garden parties. There was also a local school and a ball park.
Overview:
Moffat is a hamlet in rural Milton along the Greenbelt route. It is surrounded by beautiful agricultural farms. The main crossroads situated off the 15th Side Road and 1st Line Nassagaweya. feature neighborhood park, yoga studio and a bakery, but that is mostly it in terms of amenities. The housing story is quite a bit different as Moffat has recently experienced a revitalization of sorts with the addition of dozens of luxury estate home just off the 15th Side Road and First Line Nassagaweya.
Homes:

These homes include two-storey Georgian mansions and sprawling contemporary bungalows with lots of windows, lavish landscaping and multiple garages.
