History

Campbellville is named after John Campbell who emigrated to Canada from Scotland in 1832 and established a homestead in what was formerly known as the Township of Nassagaweya. Campbellville was considered the most prosperous hamlet in the township.

It had a sawmill, blacksmith shop, tannery, tavern, hotel, general store, and in 1849 its own post office. While Campbellville was never incorporated as a municipality it did achieve Police Village status in 1914. In 1974 Campbellville officially became part of the Town of Milton.

Amenities

Campbellville is located in West Milton, and, until 1974, was originally part of Nassagaweya Township. The area is home to conservation areas, the Mohawk Racetrack for horse racing.
